BYD has cracked 10,000 new-vehicle sales in a month, posting 10,025 registrations and growth of 153 per cent as the Chinese car-maker continues its rapid expansion in Australia.
The milestone puts BYD at 86,639 sales year-to-date, up 106.9%, with the Sealion 7, Atto 2 and Shark 6 among its strongest performers.

BYD’s 10,025-unit result puts another marker down in an Australian new-car market increasingly influenced by Chinese manufacturers.
Toyota remained well ahead for the month with 20,649 sales, up 4.7%, but its year-to-date tally is 27,942 units down on the same period last year, a decline of 13.9%.
BYD, by contrast, has more than doubled its year-to-date volume.

The Sealion 7 was one of the biggest contributors to its latest result, recording 2524 sales, an 88% increase. The newer Atto 2 added 1943 units, while the Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute delivered 1843 sales, up 72%.
The Shark 6 result also marks a turnaround for the ute. Its year-to-date performance is now up 1.6%, having been 8.1% behind at the end of July.
BYD’s growth comes amid a much broader surge in Chinese-made vehicles. China-origin imports reached 37,503 units for the month, up 94%, giving them 36.3% of VFACTS sales.

Year-to-date Chinese vehicle volume stands at 318,862 units, up 75.1%. Geely recorded 4365 sales, Zeekr 1874, Omoda Jaecoo 2330 and GAC 1133.
That momentum contrasts sharply with established vehicle-sourcing markets, with Japan down 13.1% year-to-date, Thailand down 11.1% and Korea down 23.5%.
Chinese EVs are also helping drive the passenger-car recovery. Passenger sales rose 18.9% to 14,478 units, with BYD Atto 1 and Geely EX2 accounting for 1793 units, or 78%, of the segment’s 2298-unit gain.
Breaking through 10,000 monthly sales gives BYD another significant benchmark as it continues to expand its model range and Australian volume.
The bigger question is whether it can turn that milestone into a regular result. Its year-to-date growth, combined with rising sales from other Chinese brands, suggests Australia’s new-car market is continuing to shift towards China-origin vehicles.
For BYD, the improving performance of Shark 6 alongside newer models such as Atto 2 and Sealion 7 gives it growth across more than a single model or segment.
