Cadillac CTS-V Coupe to blast in at Detroit

Killer Caddy will take its bows at the North American International Auto Show

We recently brought you the first images of Cadillac's production-ready CTS Coupe, and now the General has lifted the lid on the barnstorming 'V' variant.

The CTS-V Coupe will make its debut at the imminent Detroit motor show, and its arrival will add fire to the high-po two-door segment, taking the fight to the likes of the Mercedes CLK63 AMG and SL63 AMG, BMW's M3 and M6 and Jaguar's XKR -- not to mention the evergreen Porsche 911.

This correspondent has already driven the CTS-V sedan, and can confirm it gives away nothing to its German counterparts in terms of pace and dynamics -- yet it undercuts them significantly on price.

This being the case, the CTS-V Coupe has us licking our collective chops, as it's propelled by the same 6.2-litre supercharged LSA V8 as the sedan (and outputs of 415kW and 747Nm distinguish it as a genuine supercar heavyweight).

The CTS-V sedan has already proven its capabilities with a 7min 59sec tour of the Nurburgring, and the coupe is likely to better this, thanks to a 25mm wider rear track and slightly lower kerb weight. It's also 51mm lower and 51mm shorter than the sedan.

As per the sedan, the coupe will be available with a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual or a Hydra-Matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with paddle-shift control, and the standard kit list will include Magnetic Ride Control and Brembo brakes.

The coupe carries over visual cues such as mesh grilles and a pronounced bonnet 'powerdome', but where it differs from the CTS-V sedan (apart from the obvious fact that it has only two doors) is in its concealed B-pillar and centrally housed tailpipes. It also has a faster windshield angle (62.3 degrees) and touch-pad operation for the doors, eliminating the need for conventional handles.

The CTS-V Coupe rolls on 19-inch cast aluminium wheels -- available in either painted or polished finishes -- shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 performance tyres. Fourteen-way-adjustable Recaro sports seats are optional, as is an exclusive new Saffron colour option for the interior.
