Cadillac has announced it will line up on the Formula 1 grid as of 2026, despite initially having its bid to join the top-flight motorsport series repeatedly denied.
Announcing it would run in F1 as GM/Cadillac, the new team will be run by Andretti Global and run Ferrari engines for the first two seasons until it introduces its own powertrain in 2028.
Ending a titanic battle between Michael Andretti, who had been denied an entry into the sport on multiple occasions, and F1, the new team will be run by Andretti Global majority owners Dan Towriss and Mark Walter, after Andretti himself reportedly stepped back from leading the team in September.
Mario Andretti, father of Michael and former F1 world champion, will serve as a director on the board.
Drivers have yet to be confirmed but originally the non-branded Cadillac race team had expressed a desire for an all-American line-up.
The arrival of the Cadillac team marks the second US-owned team on the F1 grid – the GM-owned operation lining up alongside Haas F1.
