Car industry contributes to flood relief fund

Carsales.com Ltd and local car companies commit significant funds to assisting Queensland's recovery from disastrous floods

The Australian car industry is lending a hand in Queensland flood relief efforts with Honda, Kia and BMW making significant contributions to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal. Carsales.com Ltd is also directing a percentage of income from private advertisements to the appeal.

Honda and Kia have committed $100,000 each. The Honda funds are sourced from the company's charitable arm, the Honda Foundation that was established in 1992. The Foundation diverts $15 to the Foundation for each new Honda vehicle sold -- $5 from the dealer and $10 from Honda.

Announcing Kia's commitment to the appeal, Kia Motors Australia president and CEO Mr K Kim said "The scope of the tragedy brought by this natural disaster is difficult to comprehend."

Further contributions came from two fund raising auctions at the Magic Millions raceday and the Gold Coast Yearling sales. The auctions raised a total of $900,000 for the Premier's Disaster Relief Fund, with the star being an M3 convertible donated by BMW Group Australia that brought $200,000.
