Caterham launches Seven 310

Caterham Cars has introduced a more powerful variant of its current Seven 275 that will sit above the current Seven 275 but below the Seven 485 in the existing line-up.

Called the Seven 310, the new model gets the same Ford-sourced Sigma 1.6-litre four-cylinder. Producing an additional 15kW over the Seven 275's 100kW, the power gains come from an ECU re-flash and hotter camshaft.

Replacing the old Rover K-Series-powered Superlight R300, the small-volume sportscar-maker claims that the new Seven 310 updates will offer the "perfect balance of power and confidence-inspiring handling characteristics".

Developed for those who race in the Supersport category, the more powerful motor allows racers to progress to the faster Tracksport series without needing to replace their race car.

In the UK, Caterham says it will offer the 310 upgrades to existing owners of the Seven 270 (our cars get fractionally more power) for £1495 ($A2400).

As well as the new power output, Caterham says it will soon offer a new LED headlight option across the range.

Currently, Caterham Australia offers just three models of the Seven. The 100kW 1.6-litre 275, the 127kW 2.0-litre 355 and the range-topping 177kW 485 that also is powered by a Ford 2.0-litre.

Pricing begins at $69,850 for the most basic Seven 275.
