CHANGZHOU MOTOR SHOW: BMW reveals 1 Series sedan
New four-door sedan based on 1 Series revealed. Won’t be sold outside of ChinaBMW has revealed a new four-door sedan version of its 1 Series that rivals the Audi A3 sedan.
Called the Concept Compact Sedan, the close-to-production vehicle revealed late last night at the Southern China show sported an all-new look for the 1 Series that could hint at the next-generation front-wheel drive replacement for the small hatch.
Similarly, inside the concept there’s a completely new interior that features a large 8.8-inch free-standing infotainment display surrounded by lots of wood and brushed aluminium.
It’s not been revealed what will power the newest 1 Series, nor when the new sedan will go on sale, but it is thought when it does it will be based on the current 1 Series' rear-wheel drive platform.
According to some reports, there’s little chance the production version of the Concept Compact Sedan will be offered outside of China, although a 1 Series sedan has been spotted testing at Germany’s Nurburgring.
Confusingly, that mule is thought to be the all-new next-generation front-drive 1-Series, hinting that a sedan for Europe and Australia could be in the pipeline.
