Cheaper GWM Haval H6 Lux Hybrid arrives

GWM-Haval Australia adds yet another hybrid SUV to its growing ranks

GWM isn’t wasting any time in expanding its global ‘new energy’ efforts and that determination is being replicated Down Under, where the Chinese car-maker’s local arm is introducing another hybrid variant to the local GWM-Haval H6 mid-size SUV range.

Mimicking the smaller Jolion line-up, the new 2023 GWM Haval H6 Lux Hybrid (from $42,490 drive-away) is positioned $3500 beneath the established H6 Ultra Hybrid (from $45,990) and thereby doubles the number of electrified H6 variants available in Australia, where demand for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid continues to outstrip supply.

Hiding under the newcomer’s bonnet is the same 179kW/530Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol/electric powertrain as the flagship, which also shares its 5.2L/100km combined fuel consumption figure and ‘Direct Hybrid Transmission’ driving the front wheels.

The only differences between the Lux and the pricier Ultra is therefore is standard equipment levels, as per the petrol-powered versions with the same names.

Highlights for the Lux Hybrid comprise Comfort-Tek leather seat trim, eight-way power adjustment for the driver, heated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system, eight-speaker sound system, smartphone mirroring, 360-degree camera and adaptive cruise control with stop and go function.

All versions of the GWM-Haval H6 were awarded a five-star safety rating last year and that top rating applies to the latest addition thanks to its standard inclusion of autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian, cyclist and crossroads detection, forward collision warning, emergency lane keeping and centring, and lane departure warning.

There’s also intelligent cornering control, traffic sign recognition, blind spot detection, rear collision warning and driver drowsiness detection, among other active and passive features.

Cosmetically, the Lux looks identical to the Ultra, with the same Hybrid-specific front fascia and 18-inch alloy wheel combination.

“With GWM's hybrid sales booming and approaching a 30 per cent mix of the Haval models in which the technology is available, the brand has today announced another addition to its NEV lineup in the form of the Haval H6 Lux Hybrid,” said GWM-Haval Australia.

Like all GWM products, the new Haval H6 Lux Hybrid is backed by a seven-year/unlimited-km warranty, five years of roadside assistance and a five-year capped price service program. The hybrid battery is covered for eight years.

How much does the 2023 GWM Haval H6 cost?

Ultra – $39,990
