Chery Tiggo 4 Pro gets sharp sub-$24,000 drive-away price

Challenger brand to deliver ‘best value’ small SUV in Australia; puts top-selling MG ZS and Hyundai Kona on notice

Provisional pricing for the 2024 Chery Tiggo 4 Pro small SUV has been announced, with the Chinese brand today confirming a sub-$24,000 drive-away price for entry-level variant.

Finer pricing and specification details will be confirmed next month but it’s expected the new budget-priced SUV will start at $23,990 drive-away.

We’ve already had a sneak preview of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in China and the importer has announced the order book will open on September 16, with first customer deliveries and dealer stock arriving in showrooms from October.

The Tiggo 4 Pro's launch will follow next month’s release of the 2024 Chery Omoda E5, the first and only EV in Australia fitted with a full-size spare wheel.

More than half a million Tiggo 4 Pros have been sold globally thus far and Chery is confident it can make a dent in the MG ZS’s dominant market share.

The ZS is currently priced from $22,990 drive-away and is the top-selling small SUV in Australia, followed by the Hyundai Kona and GWM Haval Jolion, and although the fresh-faced Tiggo 4 won’t undercut the MG ZS on price, Chery claims it’s “the best value turbo powered compact SUV available in Australia”.

It’s backed by a solid seven-year warranty and will be offered in two flavours in Australia, the entry-level Urban and top-spec Ultimate.

Both are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine (108kW/210Nm) that’s hooked up to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels.

Final pricing and specification is expected to be confirmed in September, as mentioned above, but carsales can confirm the Tiggo 4 Pro will feature LED headlights and alloy wheels on the outside and an upmarket cabin design on the inside, dominated by dual 10.25-inch digital screens.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are part of the package, as are heated front seats, seven airbags and “an impressive array of driver assistance features,” says Chery.

Sales of Chery vehicles are still fairly low, but the 5152 sales thus far in 2024 represent a whopping 127 per cent increase year-on-year, and the arrival of the Tiggo 4 Pro gives the brand a new price-leader in the SUV space.

At present there are only three Chery vehicles – all SUVs – available in Australia, including the Omoda 5, Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, however the brand is rapidly rolling out more models, with the all-electric Omoda E5 arriving imminently, followed by the Tiggo 4 Pro in October along with two more mid-size SUVs.

Said models are the 2025 Omoda 7 plug-in hybrid destined to take on the top-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Jaecoo J7, the first model from Chery’s new luxury spin-off brand.

Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.
