The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ is a spacious, well-presented mid-sized SUV priced below that of many compact SUVs. It offers generous five-seat family car space and packs in plenty of gear for its very reasonable price. That focus on value makes it a tempting proposition in a busy SUV market. However, when the wheels start turning the Tiggo 7 loses some of its lustre, reinforcing that to some extent you get what you pay for.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is only available in two models, each undercutting most rivals.
The SE – or Special Edition – was marketed as an upgrade when it arrived early in 2025 (it brought new-look alloy wheels) but essentially it just removed some gear and slashed $7000 from the price.
It also came without the flagship all-wheel-drive model, with the two options both front-drive.
The Tiggo 7 Pro SE starts at $29,990 drive away, while SE+ model we’ve tested here is $33,990 drive away.
The Tiggo 7 is also now available as a plug-in hybrid, which Chery refers to as a Super Hybrid system. It’s priced from $39,990 drive away as an Urban or $43,990 drive away as an Ultimate.
The Tiggo 7 is strictly a five-seater but those wanting seven seats can check out the Tiggo 8 Pro Max.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro gets 18-inch alloys, smart key entry, dual-zone ventilation, power-adjustable driver’s seat and fake leather trim.
Impressively, there’s also a full-size spare wheel.
The SE+ adds a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, wireless phone charger, adjustable ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, power-adjustable passenger seat, heated front seats, luggage cover, power folding exterior mirrors, black wheels and the choice of a two-tone roof.
The Tiggo 7 is covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. However, if you use the car for commercial purposes it’s capped at seven years/150,000km.
Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km. The first five services are $289 each while the sixth and seventh are $386.09 and $320.84 respectively.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro gets front and front-side airbags as well as side curtain airbags. There’s also an airbag between the two front occupants.
Plus, there’s blind-spot monitoring, driver monitoring, speed-sign recognition, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert with auto braking, and exit warning.
There’s autonomous emergency braking that also covers pedestrians and cyclists and works at intersections.
Some of those driver-assist systems can be too eager to beep and alert you, often when there’s no danger. The driver monitoring system will regularly chastise you for not concentrating, even though you are. And the lane-keep assist can be quite aggressive in momentarily deciding it wants you to be somewhere else in the lane.
The SE+ also benefits from a 360-degree camera system for improved visibility when parking.
The Tiggo 7 Pro received a five-star ANCAP rating when tested to 2023 protocols.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro comes with a decent smattering of tech – and certainly more than most would expect at this price level.
Dual 12.3-inch screens sprawl across the dash and incorporate wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The system also includes voice control via ‘Hello Chery’ commands and its associated avatar that blinks at you from the top right of the screen.
The touchscreen is logical to navigate and a row of touchpads below it makes it easy to quickly adjust the ventilation system.
You can change the instrument cluster layout between three themes: classic, streamer or fashion. Classic displays traditional circular dials while the others have varying takes on more modern layouts relying on a more prominent digital speedo.
There are also four touch pads on the right side of the instrument cluster; being able to adjust the screen brightness easily is a win, although why the driver would be using those separate buttons to adjust the volume is a mystery given there is a central roller wheel and toggle on the steering wheel for the same result.
There are multiple charging options including USB-A, USB-C, and a wireless charger. The SE+ also includes a Sony eight-speaker audio system (it’s decent but nothing overly special) and adjustable ambient lighting.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ gets a relatively small 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine, although the addition of a turbocharger adds muscle.
That said, it’s modest muscle, with just 137kW to play with backed up by a more substantial 275Nm of torque.
It runs through a seven-speed twin-clutch auto driving the front wheels.
While the Tiggo 7 was previously offered with an all-wheel-drive variant, it’s currently front-drive only.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ is claimed to use an average of 7.0L/100km and emit 163g of CO2 each kilometre travelled.
That’s in the mix with key petrol-powered rivals, although the Tiggo 7 needs more expensive premium unleaded.
During our time we found it used more than that, even using more than the 9.3L/100km city fuel use figure. That said, most of our driving was done around town.
The 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ has plenty of room for improvement once you hit the road.
Its 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine doesn’t make much power but at least produces its respectable torque low in the rev range. Having the full 275Nm on tap from 2000rpm means it pulls well, at least once things get rolling.
However, it doesn’t gel well with the seven-speed auto, which can be inconsistent and grabby when taking off.
It requires more finesse in traffic – and even then there will be some head-nodding moments.
The stubby gear lever doesn’t always follow instructions, either. I often had it not selecting Drive or Reverse, requiring a second (and sometimes third) stab to get the job done. And don’t go pressing the button on the side to help select gears, because that’s for popping it into manual mode.
There are also issues with the cruise control. Even on a mostly flat road it’ll surge as it tries to maintain speed. It’d get tiring on long trips.
The stop-start system, too, can be caught out, especially straight after the engine has shut down; it’s only a second or two of delay, but when you’ve got your right foot buried and everything is silent it can be frustrating in the cut and thrust of city traffic.
Underway, the Tiggo 7 is inoffensive but lacks the chassis maturity of rivals.
Steering is light and faithful but accelerating out of tight corners and intersections can have the inside front wheel scrabbling for traction.
Blame it on the softer suspension that doesn’t have the body control of a Toyota RAV4, Kia Sportage or Mazda CX-5. It’s an SUV built for comfort rather than driving thrills.
It’s clear designers have tried to give the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+ a more upmarket flavour inside compared with similarly priced rivals.
The faux leather is respectably convincing and is teamed with chrome highlights and matte silver touches to liven the aesthetic.
It’s more traditional in its layout, albeit with some modern materials.
The front seats have the headrests incorporated into the backrest for a hint of sporty flavour. Strips of carbon-fibre-like material top it off.
The high centre console covers a sizeable binnacle beneath, something that’s handy for small bags or other odds and ends.
In the rear there’s thoroughly respectable space, ensuring even adults are well catered for. A low window line ensures good vision and the seats are comfy.
Like rivals, the back bench works best as a two-seater for adults – allowing use of the arm rest with integrated cup holders – but it will accommodate three better than most. The centre occupant needs to double clip the seatbelt, first from the top of the seatback then across the hips.
Rear vents keep the air flowing aft and there are a couple of small binnacles in the back of the centre console.
The boot dishes up a respectable 549 litres of cargo space when loaded to the roof. There’s a flat floor and rotating bag hooks on either side are a handy addition. The 60/40 split-fold allows for bulky items.
Anyone over six-foot will have to duck for the tailgate though.
It’s difficult to ignore the value in the 2025 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro SE+. You can get a mid-sized family SUV for less than the price of many small SUVs.
Throw in generous space and a well-presented cabin and it’s easy to see the appeal.
But the Tiggo 7 also arrives with compromises, many of them rearing their head once the wheels start turning.
The auto transmission alone would be enough to turn some away.
It’s a shame, because the foundations are there.
And for those prepared to overlook the driving issues there’s undeniable value.
