General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has confirmed Australian deliveries of the C8 Chevrolet Corvette will not be impacted by the latest production stoppage at the Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
The US auto giant is managing ongoing supply chain issues and component shortages for the much-anticipated C8 Corvette, which in Australia is currently priced from $159,990 plus on-road costs (MY23) and, if you order one today, could take several years to be delivered.
This latest production halt came into effect on Monday, August 29, and is expected to last for a week. Work is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, September 6.
The nature of the supply chain issues and which components for the 369kW V8-powered mid-engined rear-drive supercar are in short supply haven’t been confirmed.
However, in a statement issued to Motor1, The General said its engineering teams would be working closely with suppliers “to mitigate any further impact on production”.
Dealer intel shared with carsales earlier this year indicated local wait times for the new-generation Chevrolet Corvette have blown out into the stratosphere, with some customers being told not to expect delivery until 2025.
GMSV hasn’t shed any extra light on the situation, but has confirmed to carsales that “demand for C8 Corvette in Australia remains strong” and that aspiring owners are “encouraged to contact their GMSV dealer for more information”.
The local spokesperson also revealed an Aussie market update on the availability of the rabid Chevrolet Corvette Z06 would be provided in the final quarter of this year – and if reports out of the US are anything to go by, it might not be good news.
Sources within the GMSV dealer network informed carsales earlier this year that less than 50 examples of the 500kW Z06 are earmarked for the mid-to-late-2023 Australian allocation, meaning not every outlet will receive stock.
But that figure may be about to drop dramatically.
Forum chatter in the US indicates the Z06 will only account for 10 per cent of entire MY23 Chevrolet Corvette production run due to “plant restrictions”.
These figures are said to have been leaked from a Chevrolet dealership computer and surfaced on the MidEngineCorvetteForum, as reported by Motor1.
