The Chevrolet Corvette will be substantially more expensive than the $144,990 list price announced by GM Specialty Vehicles in March.
At the time, GMSV said the local order book for the first global mid-engined Corvette would open in the second quarter of this year, when full specifications for the MY22 right-hand drive version due here around the end of the year will be announced.
Now, an official dealer document sent to at least one customer who expressed their interest in the model reveals the entry-level MY22 Chevrolet Corvette 2LT Coupe will cost $187,990 drive-away.
That’s a cool $43,000 more than GMSV’s list price (including GST and LCT) and significantly more than the circa-$13,000 that buyers of a comparable model like the Porsche 718 Cayman would pay for on-road costs including a dealer deliver fee and statutory charges like CTP and registration.
Likewise, the dealer document provided to carsales listed the Corvette 2LT Convertible at $203,990 drive-away, the 3LT Coupe at $204,990 drive-away and the 3LT Convertible at $220,490, which is significantly up on the respective $159,990, $160,500 and $175,500 list prices previously announced by GMSV.
In addition, the dealer’s letter to potential customers stated that these are the prices for standard MY22 models and include the Z51 performance package and front lift system (which are optional in the US) but do not include premium paint or other options and “is subject to change to the MY23 model and beyond”.
Furthermore, the dealer document stated that the first allocation of Corvettes will be extremely limited, and that vehicles will arrive with predetermined options and a limited choice of paint colours.
“However, moving forward with MY23 we anticipate the ordering process to be more bespoke with a whole host of options available for you to make your Corvette unique,” said the document.
“As mentioned in our initial letter to you, we will be looking to confirm all orders with formal contracts and 10% deposits as soon as we are able. This is important to keep your position in the queue and is required to be paid within 7 days of being requested to do so.”
GMSV is yet to announce full specs for the MY22 Corvette but says drive-away pricing including delivery fees are determined by dealers, who will be informed of their allocation within coming weeks.
