Chevrolet has launched what it claims is the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever created.
The new 2019 Corvette ZR1 employs a supercharged 6.2-litre LT5 V8 good for an epic 563kW/968Nm.
To achieve the towering power and torque, engineers created a new dual fuel-injection system -- a first for General Motors.
To keep the new powertrain cool, four different radiators are packaged tightly in the Corvette's snout.
Available with either a seven-speed manual transmission with rev-matching downshifts, the latest ZR1 debuts an optional eight-speed automatic.
Chevrolet has yet to reveal official performance figures, but says its new ZR1 is capable of exceeding 338km/h.
Featuring a completely redesigned aerodynamic package, the ZR1 will be offered with two styling packs.
The so-called 'Low Wing' pack reduces drag to deliver the highest possible top speed -- despite generating 70 per cent more downforce than the old Corvette Z06.
Alternatively, the 'ZTK Performance Package' adds a front splitter and a massive (adjustable) rear wing capable of delivering an incredible 430kg of downforce. The ZTK pack also adds Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres and magnetic dampers.
The Corvette ZR1's full performance figures will be revealed nearer to its North American release in the second quarter of 2018.
It will be the ultimate version of the current Corvette before it's replaced by an all-new, mid-engined model that's expected to be built in right-hand drive and made available in Australia via GM for the first time.
