You might expect to see something like this curvaceous Corvette at an exclusive invite-only car show like the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Imagined by Jason Battersby, a 37-year-old car design professional who formerly worked for Audi (including on projects like the Audi Grandsphere limo concept), his Chevrolet Corvette Stringray 60 homage concept blends modern and classic Corvette design cues.
“I wanted to be sure to retain the iconic long bonnet proportions, and emphasize them as much as possible,” writes the car designer on Instagram.
“Long feature lines stretch from the nose all the way to the base of the windscreen. Low functional air channels are reminiscent of the chrome outlets found on the C2's bonnet,” adds Battersby, who clearly has a soft spot vintage Corvettes.
Rear end sketches reveal this particular flight of fancy is (likely) not an EV, boasting a pair of proud ovoid exhaust pipes, no doubt venting the unwanted side-effects of a snarling GM-built V8.
Then again, it could be a hybrid monster, given that Chevrolet's first electrified Corvette, the E-Ray, is showing promise -- and the electrified 'Vette will be coming to Oz by late 2024. That vehicle blends a traditional pushrod 6.2-litre LT2 V8 with an e-motor/eAWD system to deliver a 481kW of power and a (claimed) spleen-popping 0-97km/h (0-60mph) acceleration time of 2.7 seconds.
An unabashed Corvette aficionado, the ex-Audi designer has even come up with his own take on the Corvette coat of arms.
“For my Stingray I didn't want to use any existing Corvette logos, so I opted to design my own. Instead of the classic bevelled edges with colour inlay, I simplified the shape and went for a matte/glossy treatment for the graphics.
“No chrome, no fuss, just a elegant black logo that carries on the Corvette flag tradition.”
