Citroen has announced a six-speed automatic variant for its C4 Cactus range, and the conventional automatic option will be made available in Australia.
Right-hook production has begun, with the auto C4 Cactus officially going on sale in the UK from February 1. The transmission is coupled to Citroen's 1.2-litre 'PureTech 110' engine, a turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit that produces 81kW and 205Nm. Already available in Australia, the three-cylinder is only offered with a five-speed manual variant to date. The automatic variant uses fuel at the rate of 55.4MPG in combined-cycle NEDC. That equates to 5.1L/100km.
Local pricing is yet to be announced, but the automatic C4 Cactus in the UK will sell for £19,560, which is a heady £2475 more than the manual. In Australia the price gap is likely to be significantly less, since the manual three-cylinder sells here for just $26,990, but a direct conversion of the auto variant's UK pricing would be $32,360.
Like the manual already sold here, the C4 Cactus auto variant will feature a seven-inch touch screen, satellite navigation, reversing camera, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming.
The new variant should have a significant impact on local C4 Cactus sales, with the only self-shifting alternative marketed in Australia a turbo-diesel model with a robotised manual transmission. Featuring a lock-up torque converter, the new six-speed offering is more of what Aussie buyers want.
