Citroen knocks $3K off entry-level C5

French brand offers C5 Attraction at bargain driveaway price for a limited time

Citroen has announced a special deal to put buyers in the driver's seat of the C5 — $32,990 driveaway for the entry-level model.

Fans of the French marque can get behind the wheel of the C5 Attraction for less than Mazda6 money (or Camry cash even). The new entry-level model, priced previously at $35,990, is powered by the 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine introduced to the Australian market just three months ago. It's not like the base variant of the range is a stripper, either. Standard features include six-speed automatic transmission, 17-inch alloy wheels, electrochromatic mirror, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control/speed limiter, Bluetooth-streaming audio and climate control.

“The new Turbo Petrol engine maintains the C5’s reputation for advanced technology and the new driveaway price builds on its value for money reputation,” says Miles Williams, General Manager of Citroen Australia, as quoted in a press release.

“The Citroen C5 almost seems to have been designed for Australia’s long distances and demanding roads with the economical engines, spacious interior and comfortable, luxurious ride quality, and now the new driveaway price means that the C5 is also designed for Australian motorists looking for the best deal!”

The engine is the same unit found under the bonnet of the Peugeot 207 and the MINI Cooper. Performance in the significantly larger C5 is leisurely, but the car will reach 100km/h in under 10 seconds (9.5) and achieve a top speed of 210km/h, which is irrelevant in this country, but not so the fuel consumption figure of 7.7L/100km, based on the combined-cycle test.

Citroen is offering the 115kW powerplant in only the sedan variants of the C5; the Tourer is not available with the turbocharged petrol four. But there are three different flavours of the turbo petrol C5: the entry grade Attraction, the mid-range Seduction and the upmarket Exclusive. The $32,990 driveaway incentive price for the C5 Attraction 1.6 will be offered for a limited time only, according to the press release.
