Citroen has announced that it plans to show off its new SpaceTourer at the Swiss auto show.
Co-developed alongside the Peugeot Traveller and Toyota Proace, the new van rides on PSA’s EMP2 platform that underpins both the Citroen C4 Picasso and Peugeot 308.
Three wheelbases will be available an XS version (4600mm), M (4950mm) and XL (5300mm).
As well as a van, Citroen has confirmed it also plans to offer the SpaceTourer as a people-mover that can offer seating for up to nine people.
Safety has been a priority in the SpaceTourer’s development with new features, for the van world, like autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and active cruise control all options.
Five engines will be available that span from 70kW to 132kW.
Unusually, as well as the vans and people-movers, Citroen also plans to reveal a new all-wheel drive concept called the SpaceTourer Hyphen 4WD.
Unusually, the French car-maker says the Hyphen 4WD is a collaboration with French pop band Hyphen Hyphen who, presumably, helped Citroen to toughen up the light commercial.
Featuring plenty of black plastic body cladding, wide wheel arch extensions, the SpaceTourer also benefits from a raised ride height, large 19-inch wheels and plenty of orange highlights.
Inside, the band’s influence extends to thick wool floor mats, a special fabric lining the roof and dashboard and a large panoramic glass sunroof.
Under the bonnet there’s a 110kW diesel that drives an on-demand all-wheel drive system that’s been specially developed by French four-wheel drive specialists Dangel.
More information is expected on the Hyphen concept and the SpaceTourer’s reveal at the Geneva show on March 1.
