Citroen's C4 Grand Picasso released in Europe
Seven-seat people mover making Aussie debut next year will share modular platform with five-seaterA replacement for the current Citroen C4 Picasso is on its way here, but the new Grand C4 Picasso won't lob until next year at the earliest.
Months ahead of its local launch the Citroen distributor in the UK has published comprehensive press information for the new model. Built on the EMP2 platform that it will share with the five-seat C4 Picasso now known to be headed our way also, the Grand C4 Picasso will be up to 110kg lighter than the model it replaces. Weight reduction measures include a mix of steel, aluminium and composite materials in the vehicle's construction.
At 4590mm the new model is the same length as its predecessor, but the new platform (named EMP2 for Efficient Modular Platform 2) facilitates a longer wheelbase measuring 2840mm – up 11cm. The front overhang has been shortened by 116mm. Both engine and the floor sit closer to the road and the glasshouse measures 5.7m², which is a larger expanse than any other rival, according to the maker. Citroen also claims class-leading interior space for the second and third-row occupants, easier access to the third-row seating and improved load-carrying volume.
The manufacturer's press material brushes over the powerplants for the Grand C4 Picasso, but all are rated low figures for CO2 emissions, with the so-called e-HDi 90 Airdream discharging 98g/km. The higher-performance e-HDi 115 producing 104g/km with an automated manual transmission, or 105 with a conventional gearbox. A Euro 6-compliant BlueHDi 150 diesel emits 110g/km with a manual box, or 117g/km with a six-speed automatic. All diesel variants come with auto-stop/start.
A loft-style interior design integrates an asymmetric dash layout and a sofa-like front-seat arrangement. Safety features available include active cruise control, anti-collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, Park Assist, 360 Vision, and Citroen's eTouch telematics system that contacts emergency services automatically in the event of a crash.
Comfort and convenience features available include keyless entry/start, a powered tailgate and a seven-inch touchpad to control the dual-zone climate control, satnav, audio and phone. A 12-inch infotainment screen can be configured – via USB – with a personal 'wallpaper' picture.
