Renderings of what appears to be the all-new, next-generation Citroen C4 appeared online late last night.
The drawings, which have not been confirmed by Citroen as legitimate, have been reported to be of an all-new concept called ‘C-Quatre’ -- which cheekily means C4 in French.
The sketches of the surprisingly close-to-production car have been said by some commentators to be for a new budget sedan for the Chinese market, but others are now claiming the pictures are, in fact, of the all-new replacement for the C4 that will also be sold in Europe and Australasia.
If so, the sporty four-door coupe profile will be underpinned by Peugeot Citroen’s brand-new, never before used Common Modular Platform (CMP) that will underpin all future PSA Peugeot Citroen B-segment and entry-level C-segment cars. This means the new C4 will miss out on the more expensive, lightweight EMP2 platform that currently underpins the Peugeot 308.
In any case, it has already been confirmed Citroen’s next C-segment hatch and sedan will be co-developed with Peugeot Citroen new Chinese partner Dongfeng.
The new C4 will also be a landmark car for the famous French car-maker as it will show the future direction of Citroen following the creation of the new sub-premium DS brand.
Citroens of the future are expected to be more value-oriented, while DS-badged cars will be more style-orientated and technically advanced.
