Mercedes-Benz has announced it will add a Sport all-wheel drive variant to its CLA line-up. The CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC will be the highest non-AMG performance model of Mercedes’ new generation small car line-up when it arrives in July (2014).
The new ‘flagship’ will, however, be pre-empted by a somewhat more sedate CLA 200 CDI turbo-diesel four-door in March.
The CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC will be priced from $64,900, while the front-drive only turbo-diesel 200 is a modest $500 premium over its entry-level 200 petrol counterpart at $50,400. Both models are available for order immediately.
Mercedes-Benz claims combined fuel consumption of 4.7L/100km for the 100kW/300Nm CLA 200 CDI. Standard features including 18-inch alloy wheels, Becker MAP PILOT Navigation and a reversing camera.
The Sport 250 adds features including leather heated electric sports seats and AMG “performance enhancements and styling”. The 250’s turbo 2.0-litre four produces 155kW and 350Nm. Mercedes claims a 0-100km acceleration time of 6.6sec.
Mercedes’ CLA and A-Class models have been in strong demand since their release Down Under. Also expected to be a sales success for the three-pointed star brand is the new GLA compact SUV. motoring.com.au will publish first drives of the GLA range Friday, February 14.
