Comedian to sell classic Ford Falcon

Sold to the highest bidder at Motorclassica 2011, the Ford Falcon XA GT of radio personality Merrick Watts is famous not only for its genetic material as the first true all-Australian GT, but also for its appearance in an iconic Australian film.

Driven by Heath Ledger and Bryan Brown in the 1999 feature film Two Hands, the Falcon GT will hold extra interest for cashed-up movie buffs when it goes under the hammer on the final day of the Motorclassica event, to be held at the World Heritage Site-listed Royal Exhibition Buildings in Melbourne.

It will be interesting to see what the Ford XA GT Falcon will sell for. It is expected to find between $40,000 and $60,000, but similar models have gone for closer to six figures in the past.

The RACV's Motorclassica event runs from October 21 to 23 and will feature a range of classic vehicles, including a 1967 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine, which was used for transporting royalty and visiting heads of state by the Commonwealth of Australia.

The Australian International Concours d'Elegance is estimated to display more than $100 million worth of vintage, classic and veteran automobiles, and even Holden will be there -- but it is being coy about the car is showing. It has only hinted that a classic car will be returned to its former glory.

Paul Mathers, the event director and classic car enthusiast said: "We are all incredibly excited about this year's event. With many more vintage and pre-war era exhibits on show as well as lots of exciting additions to the program, we have really stepped things up a gear from 2010. Those who thought it couldn’t get any better are in for a real treat!"

The event costs $30 for adults, $20 for kids, and will feature a who's who of classic motor vehicles, not to mention a large display of classic Mercedes-Benz cars. The Velo from 1896 will be on disaply as Bezn celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Meanwhile Porsche is celebrating its 60th birthday and will be showing off a phalanx of Porkers, including Derek Bell’s 1987 Le-Mans winning 962 that will star on the Concours floor.

The Saturday and Sunday of the event will see a classic picnic take place in the Carlton Gardens outdoors and around the Museum Plaza, with barbecues, catering and "roaming entertainment" along with displays from various Victorian car clubs.

Plenty of non vehicular auto attractions will be present, such as the Auto Art Show that displays the work of "the finest automotive artists from around Australia" including photography, sketches, paintings, sculptures and jewellery.
