A bolder look and a sportier model variant are two of the highlights of the facelifted 2021 Hyundai Kona.
Providing a boost for one of Australia’s most popular small SUVs, the new version of the Hyundai Kona will go on sale in February 2021.
This is a facelifted and upgraded version of the existing Kona rather than an all-new vehicle.
It scores a revised front end with more modern headlight and front bumper treatments, plus a new-look grille and lower fascia. At the rear there are new-look tail-lights and a redesigned lower bumper.
But the big news is the addition of a sportier N-Line model.
Not to be confused with the N designation Hyundai uses for its high-performance models, N-Line variants are ‘warm’ rather than ‘hot’.
Still, with a 145kW turbo-four, the relatively compact Kona N-Line should be an engaging if not sporty drive.
The up-spec Hyundai Kona N-Line will also get body-colour wheel-arch extensions and side skirts, unique 18-inch alloy wheels and a sportier front bumper design with bonnet vents above the grille and enlarged lower air intakes.
Although initially Hyundai Australia hinted at a new petrol-electric hybrid model joining the Kona line-up, that’s not in the plan.
One interesting engine option remains a new 88kW 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine coupled to 48V mild-hybrid system and smart automatic transmission.
Inside, the 2021 Hyundai Kona gets a full digital dash and larger central infotainment touchscreen, with top-spec models featuring a large 10.2-inch unit. Expect the latest wireless smartphone mirroring and charging.
Other changes include extra cargo capacity and rear-seat legroom as well as the addition of features such as heated rear seats.
Safety also gets a boost via the Hyundai SmartSense Active Safety system which includes class-leading autonomous functions, collision avoidance systems, smart cruise control and more.
