Mercedes-AMG Australia has unveiled a new special edition series of its small car line-up, with the A 35, CLA 35, A 45 S and CLA 45 S all encompassed.
Starting with the support acts, the A 35 hatch, sedan and CLA 35 have all been given an ‘Edition R’ makeover that sees the usually optional AMG Aerodynamics Package added as standard along with black 19-inch AMG wheels, red brake callipers, Artico/Microcut black upholstery with red topstitching and AMG aluminium interior trim.
Going further is the Edition R+ treatment applied to the hotter A 45 S and CLA 45 S which builds on the above with AMG Performance seats and an AMG rear wing for the fastback.
Adding to the excitement is the fact the Edition Rs are $3500 cheaper than their donors while the Edition R+s cost exactly the same as the regular compact flagships.
No changes have been made to the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines powering the compact AMG family, meaning the 35s still output 225kW/400Nm while the 45 S’ continue poaching V8s with 310kW/500Nm.
It’s unclear how many units of each model are headed Down Under, but first deliveries are set to start later in the year with order books open as of today, their introduction coming in the wake of the bigger GLC 43 Edition R’s release.
