Claimed to be one of the "most eagerly anticipated automotive collaborations in recent times" the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 is a very angry car.
British automotive engineering firm Cosworth is best known for building and supplying Formula One, WRC and World Superbike engines, but the company has decided to give a road car a crack in 2010, with just 75 units of the Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 planned for sale in the UK.
Subaru Australia spokesman David Rowley told the Carsales Network that this hardcore special edition model will not be imported here, but hinted that high performance "Tuned by STI" models could be in the works for Australia. "We never have any shortage of special edition models, but this particular [Cosworth] vehicle won't be offered outside the UK," stated Rowley.
The car has not been fully revealed yet -- only these teaser detail images are in the public domain -- but we do know that Cosworth has given the engine more herbs. A lot more herbs.
Starting with a 221kW turbocharged boxer engine, Cosworth has managed to coax 294kW at 5750rpm, which "...ensures the Cosworth-tuned car will be one of the most accelerative all-wheel-drive hatchbacks ever," says the automotive engineering company.
This power output provides the Impreza STI CS400 with a claimed zero to 100km/h sprint of 3.7 seconds, a good 1.5 seconds quicker than the standard STI's 5.2sec dash.
Cosworth hasn't revealed all the car's secrets yet, such as torque output or maximum speed, but the London-based company has confirmed a number of chassis updates, including a custom brake package comprising six-piston AP Racing brake calipers chomping on 355mm discs at the front.
Other features of the extreme Subaru WRX include modifications to the suspension and exhaust systems, and changes to the car's interior and exterior styling have also been mooted.
The Cosworth Impreza STI CS400 will go on sale in the UK from June 2010.
