Volkswagen Group Australia (VGA) has released specification details for the upcoming 2022 Cupra Ateca, which will be available in a single, highly-specified variant when it arrives in the second quarter of this year.
The sole Cupra Ateca offering will be known locally as the VZx and it will come with pretty much all the standard equipment that buyers of small performance SUVs could want.
The standard kit list is so extensive in fact that there are only three optional extras, including an Akrapovic exhaust system, Brembo brake package and an electric panoramic sunroof.
Unsurprisingly, reading through the spec sheet is a lot like reading that of a high-end Volkswagen product given the common platform, powertrain and safety systems.
Rolling on 19-inch alloy wheels with an 18-inch spare, the 2022 Cupra Ateca VZx will feature full-LED headlights, LED tail-light and LED daytime running lights, plus dynamic indicators, automatic high and low beam, quad exhaust outlets, gloss-black body highlights, ‘dark aluminium’ mirror caps and welcome lights.
Inside the cabin, drivers will be greeted by a heated leather multi-function steering wheel, 10.25-inch digital cockpit (instrument cluster), 9.2-inch infotainment touch-screen featuring Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, wireless phone charging, Beats sound system, tri-zone climate control, heated leather sports seats, aluminium pedals and ambient lighting.
Other technological highlights include a 360-degree camera, auto folding and heated wing mirrors with memory function, rain sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, powered tailgate and keyless go.
In terms of safety features, the Australia-bound Cupra Ateca will feature all of the usual VGA goodies including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, side assist with exit assist, lane assist, Travel Assist, driver fatigue detection, proactive passenger protection and park assist.
According to Cupra Australia product and planning boss Jeff Shafer, the Ateca VZx bundles Cupra’s performance DNA into a loaded, “practical, versatile SUV” package.
“By offering one fully-loaded variant, we can give customers the very best the brand has to offer in terms of tech, driving experience and style, while maintaining simple to understand model offering for our local launch,” he said.
As previously reported, the Cupra Ateca is powered by a 221kW/400Nm turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine driving all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, resulting in a claimed 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds.
The Ateca will be joined in local showrooms by the Cupra Leon and Cupra Formentor, but those waiting to see a price tag for any of them will have to wait until closer to their respective launches.
