Dacia has just launched a new mud-slinging initiative in the UK that delivers instant street cred for 4WD owners who’ve not been within cooee of an off-road track.
In a bid to encourage more people to head bush in their 4x4, the Romanian car-maker has opened its first ‘Adventure Ready’ Mud Wash in London, where owners can bring their SUV (or car) in to swap soap suds for mud and dirt, at no cost.
Better still, customers can opt to have their new Dacia Duster SUV delivered in filth and grime (pre-muddied), just in case a fresh paint finish (‘Showroom Ready’) is too mainstream.
It comes as new research revealed that 40 per cent of 4x4 drivers in the UK admitted to never having taken their 4WD off-road, while a further 19 per cent of respondents said they’ve never even driven down a dirt track.
Furthermore, 17 per cent of those surveyed said they wished they could be more adventurous with their 4x4, while over a third of those surveyed admitted the closest they’d been to “challenging terrain” is negotiating the school run.
Dacia’s brand director Luke Broad said the new Mud Wash is about setting car buyers up for a year of adventure and embracing all that comes with it.
“The Dacia Duster is the perfect all-terrain vehicle to get Brits out into our fantastic countryside more often,” he said.
“For those feeling like their 4x4 is more at home on the school run than a mud run, the Mud Wash aims to inspire them to swap the telly for wellies and get off the beaten track this year.”
Australia could be in line to adopt the initiative, given Dacia plans to launch Down Under in the next few years.
Obviously, the free attraction won’t sit well for those who prefer to keep their vehicle’s glossy paint showroom-ready.
But for many owners it’s surely a big drawcard: Instant street cred with a mud pack applied to make your car – and you – look like a fair-dinkum off-roader.
