Remanufactured factory-backed full-size American pick-up trucks are trending harder than a popstar’s leaked images these days, with more players vying for a slice of a booming and lucrative market segment.
The RAM 1500 made the market its own after arriving first on the scene in 2016 – about two years before the Chevrolet Silverado followed suit (also via Walkinshaw Automotive), with the Ford F-150 joining the party late last year and the Toyota Tundra to come in 2025 – and now there’s a heavily updated six-cylinder version of the RAM 1500 on the way.
The clock is therefore ticking on the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 that burbles under the bonnet of the current model, and it’s clear RAM Trucks Australia is starting to free-up room for the new model because the entry-level 2024 RAM 1500 Big Horn SWB automatic is now on special with no on-road costs.
Yep, RAM is offering Aussie pick-up buyers more than $10,000 off the drive-away price of its Big Horn (depending on which state you live in), which usually goes for $119,950 plus on-road costs.
But as popular as the big-rigs are becoming, they’ll never be a match for SUVs and it just so happens that Volkswagen has a similarly enticing promo running on the VW Touareg flagship SUV at the moment – a $12,000 discount off the drive-away price.
The promo means buyers in Sydney (with a 2000 postcode) can buy the base Volkswagen Touareg 210TDI Elegance 4MOTION for just $86,020 drive-away.
For that kind of money, however, you could buy three 2024 Suzuki Swift GL manuals and still have enough change for accessories, given the base Swift is on special at the moment for $23,990 drive-away, ahead of the all-new Swift’s arrival in May.
That’s only $500 more than the base hatch’s usual $23,490 plus on-roads asking price and means you can save more than $2500 depending on their state or territory of purchase, however, it should be noted the special price doesn’t apply in northern NSW or Queensland.
