Everyone loves getting toys for Christmas, especially tough, rugged and capable ones like the old Tonka range of diggers, trucks and 4x4s.
While it might look a bit odd for an adult to be playing with a Tonka truck sans kids, there’s nothing weird about playing in your almost infinitely capable pick-up truck, in fact Jeep is encouraging it by wiping out all of the on-road costs for its flagship 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon 4x4 automatic.
The Rubicon nameplate has long been associated with the most rugged and capable Jeep models of all and the Gladiator has quickly earned a reputation as exactly that with its three locking diffs, aggressive tyres, segment-leading off-road angles and superior wheel articulation.
It’s also the one of the most expensive Jeep models in Australia at $87,250 plus on-road costs, but the axing of more than $6000 worth of statutory costs (depending on where you live) is nothing to be scoffed at.
The deal is sweetened further by the three years of capped-priced servicing also being thrown in, but the offer is only available until December 31 and only applies to MY22-plated new or demonstrator vehicles.
Of course, 4x4 lifestyle utes are something of an acquired taste and don’t exactly make the best inner-city family runabouts.
Compact SUVs like the 2022 Volkswagen T-Cross 85TSI Life automatic come pretty close though, and said high-rider is currently on special for $32,990 drive-away.
This particular T-Cross is the entry-level variant and usually retails for $30,750 plus ORCs, meaning VW is scraping off close to half of the nitty gritty on-road costs – perfect for this time of year with budgets being drawn up and often stretched.
The 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine under the bonnet will continue to nurse the back pocket after the transaction is complete too, because it only sips 5.4L/100km on the combined cycle.
For those after something even smaller, the pint-size 2022 Citroen C3 Shine automatic is still on special and current available from $34,990 drive-away with the added inclusion of metallic paint.
This represents a useful saving on the sole Citroen C3 model available in Australia – usually priced at $32,267 plus ORCs – especially when the usually optional $690 metallic paint is factored into the equation.
