If you thought the 2021 Jeep Gladiator pick-up truck couldn’t get any wilder, think again.
It might not be as berserk as the V8-powered So Flo Gladiator 6x6 we saw last year, the upgraded ute from Californian tuner Next Level will appeal to those who want a juggernaut-sized Jeep six-wheeler with way more road presence than the regular pick-up.
Priced from $US132,000 ($A171,000), which is more than $100K above the standard $65,450 Jeep Gladiator sold in Australia, the 6x6 model is available in the US through authorised Jeep dealerships and adds an extra axle, new suspension, bigger wheels and tyres, auto-folding side steps and a longer tray.
Nominally a 4x4 vehicle, the 6x6 function can be activated for extreme off-road activity.
Backing up the unique driveline are new Fox shocks all round and massive 37-inch Toyo Open Country M/T (mud terrain) tyres shod with new-look 20x13.5-inch alloy rims.
There are some options available too, including a unique steel front bar complete with a Warn winch system and roof-mounted LED spot lights.
The cabin also gets premium materials such as hand-stitched Nappa leather, while the seats feature extra lateral support bolsters and bespoke leather and suede patterning.
While there’s no tyre-shredding force-fed V8 engine option (yet), the 6x6 Next Level Jeep Gladiator is offered with the standard engine range, starting with a turbo-petrol 2.0-litre unit (200kW/395Nm), a 3.6-litre petrol V6 (215kW/353Nm) and a range-topping, tow-friendly 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel mill (280kW/637Nm).
It’s not the first 6x6 ute to put rubber to the road – and it definitely won’t be the last – with the F-150 VelociRaptor 6x6 and bonkers 895kW RAM 1500 TRX Mammoth 6x6 both created by Hennessey.
There was also the Mercedes-Benz X-Class Exy 6x6 concept from Polish tuner Carlex.
Should this 6x6 Jeep conversion be sold in Aussie showrooms, and what about Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux six-wheelers – would they attract buyers here? Have your say in the comments section below.
