There’s plenty of attention on the upper reaches of the dual-cab 4x4 ute market these days, but not all that much fanfare surrounding the lower ranks.
While it’s not the absolute bottom of the Mazda barrel, the 2023 Mazda BT-50 XT 4x4 dual-cab manual is one of the more budget-friendly options within the Japanese brand’s expansive ute range, especially the variant fitted with the lauded 3.0-litre 4JJ3-TCX engine.
Usually retailing for $52,580 plus on-road costs, this Isuzu D-MAX LS-M equivalent is currently available for $53,310 drive-away – meaning about $6000-$7000 worth of on-road costs have been whittled down to just $770.
The news gets even better if you’re an ABN holder because that reduces the price down to just $51,990 drive-away, marking an outright saving of over $1300 before on-road costs are factored in.
Manual dual-cabs are of course not the most family-friendly options out there, even if an increasing amount of Aussies are opting for utes as their family-haulers, which is where the 2023 Renault Koleos Zen 4WD automatic comes in.
Offering plenty of space for five and plenty of room for groceries, the Zen 4WD is the third-tier offering within the local Koleos portfolio and usual retails for an even $45,000 plus on-road costs.
Between now and December 31, however, you can pay an extra $990 and drive away with no more to pay, because Renault has compressed the irritating ORCs down into one wallet-friendly sub-$1000 premium, saving consumers upwards of $3500 depending on their state or territory.
And if you need seven seats? Hyundai is offering a $2000 factory bonus on all Santa Fe variants produced in the first half of this year, including the mid-range 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Active CRDi automatic.
As with most factory bonuses, the discount is applied to the final drive-away total at the time of settlement and could mean the difference between taking home the rev-hungry V6 petrol or more tractable diesel all-wheel drive, given the effective price margin between the two would be down to just $1500.
