Audi president, Rupert Stadler, has countered Benz’s claims that it had re-established the S-Class’s position as the only truly credible super luxury limousine.
The Audi boss yesterday warned Mercedes that driving the S-Class had made him far more comfortable about the qualities of Audi’s own next-generation A8 limousine.
“It is a good car, of course, but there is nothing about it that we don’t have an answer for with the next A8.
“It shows us that we are working in the right areas and improving the right areas of the A8 for the next generation.
“It is very quiet and comfortable, but these were areas we were already working on through customer feedback anyway.”
Mr Stadler added that the next A8 will also come in short- and long-wheelbase forms and could even give rise to a large coupe.
“We are working very hard on interior noise levels with this car and on ride comfort, and it will have the next generation in active ride suspension systems,” he said.
“The design will also be more adventurous than we have now.”
