DETROIT MOTOR SHOW: More performance for VW Passat
Volkswagen wheels out 184kW Passat Performance Concept at DetroitNot content with previewing its first seven-seat crossover, Volkswagen has also used the 2013 Detroit motor show to unveil a piping-hot 184kW version of its popular Passat sedan.
Labelled only as a show car at this stage, Volkswagen says the Passat Performance Concept “gives a sneak-peek at upcoming sport sedan”.
It packs a new 184kW 1.8-litre version of the turbocharged direct-injection (TSI) EA888 four-cylinder petrol engine from the Golf R, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The extra power is complemented by lowered sports suspension and revised electro-mechanical steering, while other new hardware includes dual exhaust outlets, 19-inch Luxor alloy wheels, bi-Xenon headlights including Advanced Front Lighting System (AFS) and LED tail-lights.
Continuing the go-faster look are carbon mirror caps, while the updated cabin includes carbon-look dashboard highlights to match the carbon-style two-tone leather seat trim, black headlining and side pillars.
Volkswagen sold more Passats than ever before in North America last year, with 117,023 examples of the Chattanooga-built family sedan finding US homes in 2012.
