We saw the moody YouTube teaser video last week and now Toyota has released the first photograph of its edgy Furia concept, which is widely expected to preview the redesigned Corolla sedan due on sale here in February 2014.
Set to make its world debut at the Detroit motor show next week, the bright-orange Furia show car appears to feature a completely different exterior design to the latest Corolla hatch released in Australia in October.
In a move that should spell greater differentiation than ever between four- and five-door versions of Toyota’s top-selling model, the Furia features a sweeping coupe-like silhouette, sharp surfaces creases, a prominent bootlid spoiler and, as seen in this teaser image, a highly stylised knife-shaped tail-light assembly.
No information has been provided with the image, but Toyota said the sedan concept will be revealed on January 14 (next Tuesday, Australian time) in Detroit by Toyota Division Group Vice-President and General Manager, Bill Fay.
In what’s claimed to be a world-first, the Furia will be showcased using a custom-built structure housing 30 of Samsung’s new 46-inch transparent LCD screens.
The Corolla sedan will be a crucial model for Toyota in both the US and Australia, where it will be a key rival to top-selling models like the Mazda3 and Holden Cruze.
