The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 140TDI Highline has returned to the German car-maker’s Australian showrooms following a hiatus due to WLTP-related production restrictions.
Volkswagen Australia director of customer experience and marketing Jason Bradshaw said the return of diesel power to the German brand’s mid-size seven-seat SUV range locally would be welcome news for rural customers and extra-urban travelers.
“Diesel remains an essential part of our model mix and is a necessity for many of our customers,” he said. “It’s good news for everyone that we can once again offer this popular variant.”
However, the 2,0-litre turbo-diesel engine returns to the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace line-up in a single, generously-specified 140TDI Highline all-wheel drive automatic variant and again commands a $1500 price premium over the identically equipped 162TSI Highline turbo-petrol variant ($53,190 plus on-road costs).
At $54,690 plus ORCs, that makes the 140TDI Highline the flagship of the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace line-up, which continues to open with the front-drive auto 1.4-litre turbo-petrol 110TSI Comfortline ($40,990) and the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol 132TSI Comfortline AWD auto ($45,490).
Standard safety features include Front Assist (AEB) with pedestrian detection, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Rear View Camera, Driver Fatigue Detection system and front/rear parking sensors with rear Maneuver Braking.
Other standard equipment comprises Adaptive Chassis Control, Dynamic Light Assist, 9.2 inch Discover Pro infotainment with navigation and gesture control, 19-inch Auckland alloy wheels, Vienna leather appointed upholstery, heated front and outboard rear seats, powered front seats with memory, ambient interior lighting, powered tailgate with Easy Open & Close, Dynamic LED headlights, LED DRLs and tail-lights, Keyless Access and start, auto headlights and wipers, Air Care three-zone climate control and electric-folding exterior mirrors.
On the options list are Metallic or Pearl Effect paint ($800), Sound and Vision Package (Digital Cockpit, Area View & Dynaudio premium sound system, $3000), R-Line Package (R-Line body styling, R-Line interior, 20-inch Suzuka alloy wheels, tinted windows and progressive steering, $3000) and a panoramic electric glass sunroof ($2000).
The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace 140TDI is available to order now ahead of first deliveries in October. However, limited stock of MY20 vehicles will be available until steady supplies of MY21 cars begin arriving from early November.
