Disney opens Cars Land
Cute new Cars Land interactive exhibit opens at Disneyland in CaliforniaHere’s something for all the family. Disneyland has opened its new Cars Land interactive exhibit at Anaheim, recreating the set of Pixar’s hit automotive move Cars on a massive 12-acre (4.9-hectare) site at Disney California Adventure Park.
Disney’s newest movie-themed attraction takes visitors into the world of Radiator Springs, the fictional Route 66 town that formed the basis of the first animated Cars film in 2006.
Cars Land comprises three rides as well as new dining and shopping venues, and is the showcase project of a $US1.1 billion development of Disney California Adventure Park, located on the former carpark adjacent to Anaheim’s original Disneyland.
Naturally, it comes complete with automotive details everywhere, including radiator caps on stanchions, while park-goers will be able to dine at Flo’s V8 Cafe, take a ride on a mini-tractor at Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree or see slick paint jobs at Ramone’s House of Body Art.
The main attraction is Radiator Springs Races, which takes guests on a side-by-side ride through Ornament Valley, while floating bumper cars are the vehicles of choise at Luigi’s Flying Tires.
Cars Land is the centrepiece of a redevelopment designed to lift the profile of Disney California Adventure Park, which opened in 2001 but failed to emulate the success of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, as a multiple-day family destination.
According to reports, Disney’s five theme parks – also including Tokyo, Hong Kong and Paris – generated almost 30 per cent of the company’s $40.9 billion in revenue last financial year.
