The facelifted 2024 Genesis G80 has been revealed ahead of the large luxury sedan’s arrival here in mid-2024, when Korea’s answer to the BMW 5 Series will bring a sharpened exterior design and reworked interior but no major mechanical updates.
Headlining the cosmetic changes is a sharpened front fascia comprising a revised Crest grille with a new double-laced mesh, ‘Micro Lens Array’ LED headlights and a sportier front bumper and intake design, all of which are intended to make the G80 look that bit more dynamic across all trim levels.
Redesigned 20-inch wheels feature at all four corners, while the rear-end has also been tweaked with new diffuser elements designed to make the G80 look more sophisticated and “eco-friendly” by obscuring the exhaust exits.
The sharpened exterior is complemented inside the cabin by a heavily revised interior design that sees the G80 score a huge new 27-inch OLED display housing both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment interface.
The resulting square perimeter largely sets the tone for the rest of the ensemble, given most of the pre-facelift model’s gentle curves and flowing lines have been replaced by straight ones, though the signature integration between the door cards and dash have been retained.
Other key changes include an all-new climate control interface, repositioned screens, brushed aluminium-look trim instead of faux wood, a redesigned gear selector, sleeker and more traditional steering wheel, more elegant centre console and repositioned air-vents.
Genesis says the facelift embodies its ‘Athletic Elegenace’ design language more accurately than the current G80, while the new interior leans more into the Hyundai luxury brand’s ‘Beauty of White Space’ design ethos.
“Genesis unveiled the newly designed G80 luxury sedan on Wednesday, marking a first model change in nearly four years since its third generation debuted in March 2020,” said Genesis.
“The interior maintains Genesis’ design ethos of the uniquely Korean concept of the Beauty of White Space, with a touch of cutting-edge technology to create a sophisticated ambience.”
All of these changes have been applied to the more muscular G80 Sport, which injects its sportier disposition into all the aforementioned upgrades, including the interior.
Australian pricing and local specifications of the updated 2024 Genesis G80 will be announced closer to the model’s local launch in the middle of next year, though it’s safe to expect a price increase of at least a couple of grand across the board.
For reference, the current G80 starts at $85,670 plus on-roads for the base 2.5T and tops out at $145,675 for the Electrified Luxury AWD.
