Facelifted BMW M5 teased ahead of debut

BMW M boss pulls drapes off super sedan on Instagram live; refreshed M5 could get modest power bump

Just days after the rest of the updated BMW 5 Series was revealed, the head of the German car-maker's performance division has teased a refreshed BMW M5.

Giving a sneak-peak of the 2021 BMW M5 on his Instagram live feed, BMW M boss Marcus Flasch revealed the revised M5's sharper looking headlights that appear to feature blue decals for the optional Laserlight tech.

The sneaky glimpse also shows how BMW M has redesigned the front bumper, suggesting that the 2021 BMW M5 and M5 Competition could feature revised aerodynamics.

Under the bonnet, the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 is set to carry over, but there are rumours engineers might have squeezed a little more power and torque than the 460kW/750Nm outputs of the current BMW M5 Competition.

There's also speculation that an even faster variant called the BMW M5 CS could also be introduced as part of the facelift, which could bring a track-focused suspension tune, more power and lightweight carbon-fibre parts.

At the rear of the facelifted BMW M5, the flagship 5 Series will get new LED tail-lights and a tweaked rear bumper.

Inside, the latest BMW M5 will get an infotainment system that now incorporates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, while the touch-screen itself is enlarged to 12.3 inches.

Stay tuned, because all will be revealed in a couple of weeks when BMW M officially pulls the drapes off the facelifted BMW M5.
