Facelifted Holden VFII Commodore previewed

The final chapter in Holden's long history of local manufacturing is about to unfold
Holden has confirmed at last that high-performance variants of the VF Series II Commodore will be powered by a 6.2-litre LS3 V8, just as motoring.com.au revealed nearly 12 months ago. 
The new engine produces 304kW and 570Nm, a significant jump from the 270kW/530Nm of the 6.0-litre engine that currently powers manual variants of the VF Commodore SS. 
Vehicles fitted with the new engine, which has been a staple of Gen-F HSV models, will also score a bi-modal exhaust system, and the range-topping SS V Redline will be offered as standard with Brembo brakes, front and rear. 
Holden says that the VFII model with the larger V8 is the fastest Commodore in the nameplate's 37-year history, capable of completing the 0-100km/h run in 4.9 seconds.

"Commodore VFII is powerful and refined, it will evoke emotion in its driver and exhibits all of the hallmarks Commodore has become renowned for over the years.

An element of the facelifted Commodore's design that was important to Holden was the adoption of functional bonnet scoops and air intakes in the front fascia. These were developed by Holden's own engineers, with support from Monash University, allowing the use of its wind tunnel. Other cosmetic changes include clear tail light lenses for the sedan, and LED tail lights for the wagon. 
The Commodore SV and SS gain keyless entry/start in addition to its carry-over specification and the 18-inch alloy wheels are a new design. The SSV can be distinguished by the bonnet vents and new 19-inch alloy wheels; and inside there's a colour head-up display as standard. Performance brakes are available as an option. The SSV Redline steps up to 20-inch alloy wheels and the Brembo brakes as standard. 
On the luxury side of the fence, Calais is now equipped with heated seats with position memory, eight-way electrically adjustable front-passenger's seat, new 18-inch alloy wheels and new boot badging. For Calais V, the new 6.2-litre V8 and brake performance package are options, and 19-inch alloy wheels, limited-slip differential (V8 variants only) and revised boot badging are standard. 
The long-wheelbase Caprice V comes with a lip spoiler, 19-inch alloy wheels, single exhaust tip and 6.2-litre V8 as standard, with the performance brake pack as an option. 
Two new colours are Slipstream Blue and Empire Bronze – both metallic paints available for $550 extra, other than Caprice V, for which they're a no-cost option. Slipstream Blue is not available for the Caprice V. Empire Bronze is not available for the sports models (SV6, SS, SSV and SSV Redline). Carry-over colours are Phantom Black, Nitrate Silver, Prussian Steel Grey, Jungle Green, Some Like It Hot Red, Heron White, Red Hot and Regal Peacock Green. Jungle Green is only available for the sports models and only Heron White and Red Hot are solid colours – ie: not metallic. 
The VFII range goes on sale during October.
