Facelifted Volkswagen T-Cross revealed

The facelifted 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross has been revealed less than a fortnight after our spy photographers spotted a mildly disguised prototype testing in Austria and we’re thrilled to confirm it looks better than expected.

Headlining the cosmetic changes for Volkswagen's smallest and cheapest SUV is a new front fascia sporting redesigned headlights and a full-width integrated daytime running light bar, full-width rear lighting signature with X-motifs, refreshed alloy wheel designs and a series of new body colours.

Occupants will be greeted inside the cabin by a digital instrument cluster in all grades, a redesigned dashboard and a new free-standing 8.0-inch infotainment interface (9.2-inch for R-Line) run by VW's latest-generation multimedia operating system.

Higher-grade and better-quality materials have been scattered about the refreshed cabin to create a more exclusive feel, especially in the higher grades of Volkswagen's Polo-based front-wheel drive light SUV.

While compact SUVs will never be renowned for their utilitarianism, Volkswagen has increased the maximum tow ball load by 20kg – from 55kg to 75kg – which it says offers more scope for towing and transporting things like bicycles, especially e-bikes.

No changes have been made to any T-Cross powertrains at a global level, which means Australian examples will continue with the same 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine as the current model.

Speaking of our market, the new T-Cross will launch in Europe early in the first quarter of 2024, thereby pointing to an Australian launch in the third or fourth quarter of next year.

Prices will almost certainly increase as a result of the new technology in all variants, but not by too much according to our sources. The existing T-Cross currently opens Volkswagen Australia's SUV range, priced from $30,990 plus on-road costs.
