German Mercedes-Benz tuner Brabus and French car brand Smart have unveiled the high-performance 2023 Smart #1 Brabus at China’s Chengdu motor show.
Following on from Brabus’ recently revealed hotter version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, the Smart #1 Brabus is said to have been developed to boost the standard car’s performance while enhancing its driver appeal.
Beneath the skin, the Brabus-tuned Smart comes with a 115kW/200Nm electric motor on the front axle and a punchier 200kW/343Nm motor driving the rear wheels.
Combined, the hotter Smart #1 Brabus pumps out a very respectable 315kW and 543Nm of torque.
That’s enough for a 0-100km/h sprint time of just 3.7 seconds, according to Brabus.
There’s no word on range, but it’s believed the quick all-electric Smart shares the standard car’s 66kWh battery pack and that the range will drop from 440km.
Recharging at up to 150kW will continue to take around 30 minutes for a 10-80 per cent top-up.
Differing from the standard Smart #1, the Brabus version gets a pair of extra air intakes that sit below the leading edge of the bonnet, plus a larger set of air curtains that hint at plenty of extra aero work to boost stability at high speed and cooling.
Red design elements and larger 19-inch alloy wheels have also been added.
Within the cabin there’s extra leather and faux suede to enhance the sporty feeling, plus a new three-spoke steering wheel.
The regular car’s 10-inch digital instrument panel and large 12.8-inch infotainment touch-screen carry over.
It’s not known what changes engineers have made under the skin to hone the handling of the Smart #1, but it’s said to have an optimum 50:50 weight distribution.
In Europe, sales of the Smart #1 kick off later this year, with the Brabus version tipped to arrive in dealerships early in 2023.
There’s still no word on whether Smart bosses are considering a relaunch Down Under.
