The Smart #6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan has been revealed this week and it’s the Chinese-German-owned brand’s largest model yet, measuring up wider and almost as long as a Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

With dimensions to rival large luxury sedans like the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 7-Series – including a 1508mm height and 2926mm wheelbase – the new PHEV sedan is thought to be due on sale in China next year.
The Smart #6 will feature an active rear spoiler according to images shared on Chinese website Weibo, which also reveal roof-mounted LiDAR and a curvaceous, aerodynamic body design with flush exterior door handles.

Pictured riding on intricate black 20-inch alloy wheels, the bright yellow sedan sports one of many body colours set to be offered in China.
Power will come from a turbocharged 1.5-litre PHEV powertrain good for 320kW (total) and mated to a three-speed transmission.
According to translated brochures posted to Weibo, the Smart #6 will offer as much as 285km (CLTC) of electric only driving range and use as little as 3.9-litre per 100km (with a full fuel load and full battery).

There’s no word on whether the Smart #6 will be offered in Australia.
However, judging by Australia’s appetite (or lack thereof) for sedans, we don’t like the chances.
