Porsche has unveiled its latest 997-model GT3. The same model raced in Carrera Cup competitions Down Under and around the world, the GT3 is the company's naturally-aspirated performance flagship.
Launched alongside the new Turbo at Geneva, the new street-legal racer goes on sale in Europe in May.
Boasting 305kW from its 3.6-litre flat six, the GT3 revs to an amazing 8400 rpm -- in fact peak power does not register until 7600rpm!
The car features a revised six-speed close-ratio transmission (manual, of course) and will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.3sec. The old ton mark (160km/h approx) is passed in 8.7sec and unshackled it will top out at 310km/h.
For the first time the chassis features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). Two configurations are offered -- one similar to that of the previous model, the second a sport mode that switches to harder damping for track use.
Wheels are light-weight 19-inchers all around and as well as a mechanical locking diff, the car features electronic traction control. The latter has been adapted from the million-dollar Carrera GT, claims Porche.
The GT3 is priced in Euro and will be offered including sales tax and country-specific requirements for the princely sum of 108,083 Euros.
CarPoint doesn't expect to publish a test of the GT3 next month, the month after that, nor the month after that.... In fact, we're unlikey to ever even get near a GT3! Life just isn't fair is it?
