Fancy a new, very fast Ferrari? We’ve got good news and bad news…
The good – the first-ever road-legal, right-hand drive Ferrari XX model has just officially ‘debuted’ Down Under.
The bad – even if you can stump up the near-$1.6m starting price tag, you’re out of luck; the full production run is already sold out.
Ferrari XX models are the pinnacle of the Italian supercar brand’s low-volume high-performance ‘specials’. To date they have been limited to track-only left-hand drive versions of key models.
That’s changed with the latest Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale – priced from $1,568,200 – which is not only road-legal but is also built in right-hand drive and can be road-registered in Australia.
The new supercar was presented to the faithful ahead of last weekend’s Australian F1 Grand Prix at a Ferrari gala in Melbourne. And although the example on display was left-hand drive, it also took pride of place at the Italian supercar brand’s Casa Ferrari installation at the sell-out Melbourne F1 title round.
Just 799 of the closed-roof Stradales will be built for worldwide consumption. In addition, a further 599 examples of the more expensive open-roofed Ferrari SF90 XX Spider (from $1,730,100) will also be produced.
Those production numbers are heavily skewed to left-hand drive production.
So how many lucky Aussies will end up with an SF90 XX Stradale or Spider in their (no doubt, well paved) driveways?
Ferrari Australia sources won’t comment but we can take an educated guess…
Australia typically over-indexes in terms of sales of special Ferrari models. Given the SF90 XXs are unique (so far) in terms of their ability to be driven on the road, there’s every chance these cars will over over-index.
The smart money is on between 20 and 30 SF90 XXs arriving over the models’ truncated production runs…
Even assuming two-thirds of those are closed-roof (we understand Aussie buyers are tending toward the Spider), that’s close to $50m worth of XXs…
Something to celebrate for Ferrari’s local connections – even before its much-loved F1 team took a Melbourne 1-2…
