Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced a revised Fiat 500 micro-car line-up for Australia but don’t get too excited.
There’s no sign here yet of the mild-hybrid version announced for Europe earlier this month, let alone the all-electric next-generation model expected to debut at the Geneva motor show in March.
Instead, changes to Australia’s Fiat 500 city-car, which dates back more than 12 years to 2007, amount to a new range-topping Club variant.
At the same time, the former entry-level $17,990 Pop model has been axed, leaving the Lounge variant to open the change at $19,250 plus on-road costs.
So as before, the Fiat 500 range continue to comprise two equipment grades (Lounge and Club, which adds $4000) and two body styles (hatch and convertible, which adds $6000).
All remain powered by a 51kW 1.2-litre petrol engine matched to a five-speed Dualogic automatic transmission, except the five-speed manual-only Lounge range-opener.
The new Fiat 500 Club features 16-inch alloy wheels, a fixed glass roof with sun blind, fog lights, DAB+ digital radio, automatic headlights and wipers, automatic climate control and a chromed grille surround, rear bumper insert and sill plates.
Two different interior are available options: black fabric seat trim with white inserts and Bordeaux stitching, or white fabric seat trim with black inserts and white stitching.
Leather interior trim is also available, as is a new exterior paint colour option, Powder Pink.
Standard features for the entry-level Fiat 500 Lounge include 15-inch glossy silver alloys, Uconnect 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and voice control, and a 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster.
All Fiat 500s also come standard with LED daytime running lights, a leather-clad steering wheel with audio controls, power-adjustable and heated wing mirrors, tyre pressure monitoring, a 50/50-split rear seat, speed-limiter, rear parking sensors, cruise control and chromed exterior window surround.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer additional features in the new Fiat 500 line-up that deliver a new level of sophistication,” said Fiat Australia brand and product strategy director, Guillaume Drelon.
“The Fiat 500 is truly a fun expression of its owner and with new technology and aesthetic refinements, it’s never looked better.”
