Fiat revises pricing across its Oz line-up

Prices slashed across Fiat's passenger and commercial range set to improve local sales forecast
Since its Australian amalgamation with Chrysler in May last year (2012), Fiat’s local presence has been stagnant, to say the least – but that’s all about to change. The local importer has been working busily with its dealers to ensure not only a greater network coverage and access to spare parts, but more accessible pricing for its customers, too.
The news sees Fiat’s attractive 500 and 500C range reduced in price by as much as $4790, with the entry-grade 500 TwinAir now available from $18,880 (plus on-road costs). Automatic variants of the frugal 500 TwinAir will now be offered from $20,300 with the convertible 500C range starting from $21,200.
Not to be outdone, the Fiat Professional (commercial) range has undergone its own rationalisation, offering an automatic transmission option across its Scudo and Ducato light-commercial range for the first time. Pricing for either manual or automatic options incurs “no penalty”, Fiat says, with models priced from $26,990 (Scudo MT and AT) and $36,990 (Ducato MT and AT) respectively.
The manufacturer has also relocated its spare parts division to Melbourne, from where it says efficiencies and economies of scale will help it achieve a streamlined supply chain to dealers. And speaking of dealers, the Fiat dealership network has now grown to 46 centres nationally, up from 17.
Fiat Chrysler’s Australian managing director and CEO, Clyde Campbell, says the new pricing structure is designed to produce strong and sustainable growth for the Italian marque.
“Since we took over the distribution of the [Alfa Romeo and Fiat] brands in May last year we have been working hard to ensure the vehicles in all out Italian brands are more accessible to the Australian market. And the first factor we looked at was the price of our current range,” said Mr Campbell. “With these new pricing schedules we are confident we will attract a new range of customers to these iconic [Italian] brands.”
Fiat Australia also announced that it will launch its seven-seat Freemont in the local market, but was tight-lipped on pricing and specification. The SUV will essentially replace the Dodge Journey – on which it is based – when it goes on sale in April.
