Final tease of Mercedes-AMG SL released

Latest glimpse gives us our best look yet at how Benz' roadster is shaping up

Mercedes-AMG has released what's almost certain to be its final tease of the upcoming all-new SL roadster ahead of its full unveiling in Europe later today.

Releasing a short clip revealing the side profile of its AMG GT-inspired snout and rear-end's styling, the glamorous replacement for the outgoing R231 is set to switch back to a fabric roof to help it accommodate 2+2 seating.

Upfront, like the earlier spy shots of the SL testing, the production car will get the car-maker's latest iteration of its sportiest Panamericana grille while, at the rear, expect a quad exhaust set-up.

All-new from the ground up, the SL is based on fresh architecture and should come with Benz's latest electrified powertrains and even offer all-wheel drive for the first time.

From launch, we expect a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 to be offered that will be joined by a plug-in hybrid later.

At the top of the performance tree will be a wild Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance that's set to borrow its plug-in hybrid powertrain from the recently revealed AMG GT – expect the same 620kW and 1400Nm of torque and a 0-100km/h of less than 3.0 seconds.

Following its online reveal, it's thought sales will commence early next year in Europe with Australian deliveries tipped to arrive much later in 2022.

Stay tuned, all will be revealed soon.
