What do the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Peugeot 3008 have in common? They are all the newest recipients of EURO NCAP's five-star rating.
The E-Class was a particular stand out with the safety boffins at Euro NCAP because of how well it scored with adult occupant safety and child occupant safety, scoring 95 per cent and 90 per cent respectively. This is very impressive because the five-star cut off for adult occupant safety is 80 per cent and 75 per cent for child occupant safety.
With an adult occupant safety score of 86 per cent and child occupant safety score of 85 per cent the Peugeot's performance was quite respectable, albeit not in the same league as the E-Class.
The Mercedes was the recipient of two Euro NCAP "Advanced" awards for the use of safety functions 'PRESAFE' and 'ATTENTION ASSIST'.
According to Mercedes, PRE-SAFE is "able to recognise critical situations on the road and, where there is the threat of an accident, trigger preventative measures to protect the occupants."
Mercedes says that 'ATTENTION ASSIST' is able to warn the driver if they become inattentive or drowsy.
