Porsche is readying a flagship all-electric SUV that will sit above its current Cayenne when it debuts in 2027.
Developed under the ‘K1’ codename, the incoming large battery-electric SUV will be a “very sporty interpretation of an SUV”, according to Porsche CEO Oliver Blume, suggesting it will shun practicality and a potential third row of seats in favour of a more rakish profile.
What we do know is the big new Porsche SUV is almost certain to sit on the same Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture as the 2024 Porsche Macan EV that could be unveiled as soon as this year.
Originally, the big Porsche was primed to use the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP Sport) but that platform has apparently now been delayed, prompting the switch.
The all-new PPE will be key to unlocking the full capabilities of the big Porsche SUV as it introduces the car-maker’s new 920-volt electric architecture that could see it charge at up to 450kW.
Powered by a 100kWh battery pack that is shared with the smaller Macan, the bigger Porsche SUV – thanks to its slippery aero – should still be able to cover at least 700km between charges.
The flagship SUV, driven by an all-new triple-motor powertrain that has been developed by Porsche in-house, should pump out around 450kW of power and 1000Nm of torque – enough for a 0-100km/h sprint time of less than four seconds.
With two powerful motors driving the rear axle and a single unit responsible for spinning the front wheels, the biggest Porsche SUV will have a firm rear-wheel drive bias.
The 2027 Porsche SUV will also come with multi-link rear suspension, a double-wishbone front-end, air springs, active anti-roll bars, rear-wheel steering and electronically-controlled rear differential lock.
There’s no word on positioning, but biggest Porsche SUV ever is expected to be priced above the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which costs a hefty $352,700 (plus on-roads) in Australia.
Set to be built on the same Leipzig factory production line as the Macan, senior Porsche suits hope the German performance brand’s new flagship SUV will continue the car-maker’s success in North America and assist its breakthrough in China.
