The seven-seat 2025 MG QS family SUV has been unwrapped at the Melbourne Motor Show, ahead of its Australian debut in local dealerships this July or August.
A rebranded version of the Roewe RX9 (pictured) that shares its SAIC Motor parent with MG, the new QS is said to be larger than the Toyota Kluger.
Positioned above the mid-size MG HS five-seater, which is priced from $35,990 drive away, the new MG QS is expected to cost around $10,000 less than the cheapest Toyota Kluger, the GX Hybrid AWD, which starts from $60,920 plus on-road costs.
Under the bonnet, the MG QS is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo that produces 153kW and 360Nm. Mated to a nine-speed automatic, MG is offering the model in a choice of front- or all-drive drive.
It’s thought that a second plug-in hybrid powertrain could also be in the pipeline, boasting more power and torque, a pure-electric range of over 60km, and ultra-low fuel consumption.
Base versions will come with 20-inch alloy wheels while the flagship all-wheel-drive variants will ride on larger 21-inch rims.
The QS will likely come in Vibe, Excite and Essence trims, matching the grade walk of other MGs.
Measuring in at 4983mm long, 1967mm wide, and 1778mm tall, the QS will come with a 2-3-2 seating configuration, with seven seats standard. It should also offer class-leading space within, not least on account of its bigger proportions and generous 2915mm wheelbase, which is 100mm longer than a Kia Sorento.
Inside, there are twin 12.3-inch screens that are combined with a row of physical shortcut buttons that sit above a slim centre console and a small gear lever.
Wireless phone charging will be standard, while the infotainment will run the car-maker’s latest software that is compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Heated seats and an electric tailgate are likely to be standard, while all versions get multiple drive modes plus the option of adaptive dampers.
Range-topping QS Essence models bag ventilated memory electric seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system and a large panoramic sunroof.
When it arrives, the big MG will come with the car-maker’s most advanced driver assist aids. These will include its most sophisticated autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree camera.
Available from the third quarter of this year, MG Motor Australia says buyers can now register their interest in the 2025 MG QS via the brand’s website.
