Ford has revealed the model walk-up and pricing for its new Mondeo mid-size passenger car, two months ahead of the local release for the important new range.
Prices kick off at $32,790 for the Mondeo Ambiente hatch with EcoBoost petrol engine. That's a $1300 jump from the superseded Mondeo LX with 2.3-litre naturally-aspirated engine – the current entry-level model until the arrival of the new series. The same price gap separates the wagon versions, with the new Mondeo Ambiente EcoBoost wagon priced at $34,640.
The new model range comprises three trim levels, with Ambiente at the base, Trend filling the mid-range gap and Titanium capping the range. The flagship model is the Mondeo Titanium TDCi (diesel) wagon, priced at $49,340, which is $850 more than the same variant in the current (MC) range.
Both engine types available in the new Mondeo range (petrol and diesel) are turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder units, the EcoBoost petrol engine developing 149kW and 345Nm for the Ambiente models, or 177kW for the Trend and Titanium models. The diesel engine, available in every level and across both body styles, produces 132kW and 400Nm. While the petrol engines are coupled to conventional six-speed automatic transmissions, the diesels are matched to six-speed PowerShift dual-clutch transmissions. All variants are front-wheel drive.
Standard features at Ambiente level include: 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable/heated door mirrors, follow-me-home lighting, Hill Launch Assist, electronic park brake, cruise control/speed limiter, dual-zone climate control, leather-bound steering wheel/gear shifter, shift paddles, cloth seat trim, driver's lumbar adjustment, SYNC2 infotainment system, eight-inch colour touch screen, Bluetooth/audio streaming, voice control, satellite navigation, digital radio (DAB+), Ford MyKey and seven airbags.
Moving up to Trend level introduces these features in addition: 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts, puddle lights, fold-in mirrors, keyless entry, adaptive cruise control, electrochromatic mirror, starter button, 10-way electrically-adjustable front seats (with memory for driver's), front-seat heating, auto headlights, auto high beam, rain-sensing wipers, partial leather seat upholstery, reversing camera, Active City Stop and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection.
Topping the range is the Mondeo Titanium, which adds to the Trend-level specification with the following standard equipment: 18-inch alloy wheels, body kit, powered tailgate (wagon only), adaptive suspension, adaptive LED headlights, dynamic headlight levelling, panoramic sunroof (fixed for hatch, powered-opening for wagon), electrochromatic driver's exterior mirror, sports seats upholstered in leather, rear-seat heating, ambient lighting, electrically adjustable (rake/reach) steering column, aluminium pedal pads, Blind Spot Information System, Enhanced Active Park Assist, Lane Keeping Aid/Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Drive Impairment Monitor.
The new Mondeo will be offered in a selection of eight exterior colours: Magnetic, Ruby Red, Blazer Blue, White Platinum Tri-Coat, Frozen White, Deep Impact Blue, Moondust Silver and Panther Black. Only Blazer Blue and Frozen White are solid colours. The rest are metallic, which incurs an extra charge of $450.
