Ford EcoSport caught in Brazil

Production version of Ford's B-segment SUV snapped while preparing for crash test

A Brazilian magazine has published a photo of the new Ford EcoSport, in production trim, as it was being readied for a crash test.

Noticias Automotivas snared pics of the Fiesta-based SUV as it stood ready to be dragged to its high-impact doom — and then published them for the world to see.

Since we don't read or write Portuguese, we recommend checking out the picture reproduced by Autoblog.com , but we warn you, it's not very far removed from the concept car unveiled in New Delhi, India, back in January.

As a little background to the story, Ford has been selling a small SUV under the name EcoSport in the Brazilian market for years. This new model, which is reportedly smaller than the car it will replace, is based on the European Fiesta B platform and will go on sale in other markets around the world — including Australia.

We reported back in January that Ford Australia will introduce the new global EcoSport to the local market early next year. It may or may not reach buyers ahead of a rival in the form of the Opel Mokka. Even if it does, it will have to push aside the Mitsubishi ASX also.
